The 98th Guards Airborne Division celebrated its 81st anniversary


The personnel of the 98th Guards Airborne Division, located in the city of Ivanovo, celebrates the 81st anniversary of the formation of its unit on May 3.
"Solemn events were held on the territory of the compound. Distinguished servicemen were awarded state and departmental awards, as well as certificates of honor," the Defense Ministry said.
The paratroopers performing combat missions in the special military operation zone were awarded Orders of Courage, medals of Zhukov and Suvorov.
May 3 is considered the annual union Day. It was on this day in 1944 that the division was awarded the battle flag. On June 3, 1946, the Council of Ministers of the USSR decided to reorganize the Airborne division, as well as rename the unit to the 98th Guards Airborne Svir Red Banner Division.
Earlier, on March 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the soldiers of the 6th Paratrooper company, who fought an unequal battle with terrorists 25 years ago, showed bravery and courage. In addition, the Russian leader stressed that at that time it was about the fate of the country, its independence and territorial integrity. The paratroopers prevented the bandits, standing up to defend the Motherland, despite the superiority of the enemy's manpower.
