Cargo transportation to the United States is being massively canceled due to trade duties imposed by the administration of American President Donald Trump. This was announced on May 2 by Renate Weimenga, a spokeswoman for the Dutch business association for trade and logistics Evofenedex.

"We now see 80 container ships around the world that have either changed or cancelled their routes. This represents 20% of the total number of cargo ships. For comparison, at the height of the COVID-19 crisis, that number was 50..."The record number of cancelled and changed cargo transportation routes is alarming," she quoted Kaspar Rourade, the association's political adviser, as saying in an interview with RIA Novosti.

At the same time, Evofenedex noted that the impact of duties on freight transportation is still difficult to assess. The Association expects new transport disruptions affecting the reliability of supplies for enterprises around the world.

A day earlier, Nikkei Asia magazine reported that Trump's duties on car imports would lead to a global drop in car production. According to the publication, car production in the European Union may decrease by 3%, in South Korea and Japan — by 2%, and in North America — by 9%. The overall global decline is forecast to be 2%.
