On May 2, US President Donald Trump proposed in the draft federal budget for 2026 to increase the country's defense spending by 13%, to $1.01 trillion. The document is published on the White House website.

"As for defense spending, the president proposes to increase it by 13% to $1.01 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year," the document says.

It clarifies that in matters of internal security, the budget provides for "historic investments" in the amount of $ 175 billion, and this is necessary to achieve security at the border.

The US president also proposes to reduce non-military free budget powers by 22.6%, to $163 billion, while maintaining funding for homeland security, law enforcement agencies and infrastructure, payments for veterans and the elderly.

On April 30, Trump decided to review some of the solutions proposed by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), run by billionaire Elon Musk. He explained that Musk's department has identified numerous cases of waste and fraud in federal agencies, the damage from which is estimated at billions of dollars.
