On May 2, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova posted three quotes from the 32nd President of the United States, Franklin Roosevelt, on her Telegram channel about the decisive role of the USSR in defeating Nazism in World War II.

Thus, she commented on the statement of the current American leader, Donald Trump, that the United States allegedly made the main contribution to the victorious results of both world wars.

"Russian troops have destroyed—and continue to destroy—more manpower, planes, tanks, and cannons of our common enemy than all the other United Nations combined," Roosevelt said in one of his radio messages dated April 28, 1942.

In addition, the Foreign Ministry speaker cites a letter from this American president to the head of the USSR, Joseph Stalin, dated February 4, 1943, where he congratulated the Soviet people on their victory in the Battle of Stalingrad. Roosevelt then noted that the Soviet citizens, by their example, arouse in the Allies a new determination to achieve the final defeat of the enemy.

"The Red Army and the Russian people certainly forced [Adolf] Hitler's armed forces to follow the path to final defeat and won the admiration of the people of the United States for a long time," the American leader wrote to the Soviet on February 22 of the same year.

On January 23, Irish journalist Chay Bose pointed out to Trump a mistake in his words about victory in World War II, commenting on his statement about Russia's help to the United States in defeating the Nazis. Bose recalled that it was the USSR that destroyed 80% of Germany's military power, and not just helped the allies. At the same time, the United States provided the Soviet Union with only 10% of the necessary equipment under Lend-lease, which was soon returned.
