The crew of a ship delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and sending a distress signal off the coast of Malta is safe. This is stated in the press release of the government of the country.
"By 02.13 (03.13 Moscow time. It was confirmed that all crew members were safe, but they refused to board the tugboat. <...> By 03.45 (04.45 Moscow time. - Ed.) the ship and its crew were safe," the document says on May 2.
According to the Maltese Government, the vessel is currently outside the territorial waters and under the supervision of the relevant authorities.
On the same day, CNN reported that the Freedom Flotilla coalition ship, carrying humanitarian supplies for the Gaza Strip, began to sink as a result of a drone attack off the coast of Malta. There were 30 people on the ship at the time of the incident. A rescue boat from Southern Cyprus was sent to the scene of the incident after receiving SOS signals.
