More than 26 thousand people were left without electricity due to the wet snow in the Moscow region. This was announced on May 2 by the governor of the region Andrey Vorobyov.

"This night in the Moscow region, especially in the north of the region, there were abnormal weather conditions for the beginning of May — a cyclone with wet snow, wind, and as a result, ice on the wires. A large number of trees fell during the night. There was a power outage in a number of settlements," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Vorobyov added that 237 power transmission lines and 4.4 thousand transformer substations were de-energized in the Moscow region. Currently, more than 200 emergency teams are working to eliminate the effects of bad weather.

The governor noted that the greatest damage was recorded in the northern and northwestern districts — Taldom, Dmitrov and Sergiev Posad.

On the same day, Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather Center, reported that the snow that fell in Moscow broke the 116-year-old record for precipitation. It is specified that 24 mm fell in 12 hours, which is about 40-45% of the monthly norm.

In addition, the head of Lobnya near Moscow, Anna Krotova, said that due to abnormal weather conditions, there was a power outage in the city. Many trees were also knocked down overnight. An operational headquarters has been set up to eliminate the consequences, and all city services have been put on alert.
