US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have appointed the American Ambassador to Cyprus, Julie Davis, as Charge d'affaires in Ukraine. The corresponding statement was made on May 1 by State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce during a briefing.

"President Trump and Secretary Rubio have appointed Ambassador Julie Davis as Charge d'affaires in Kiev at this critical time as we move towards a peace agreement to stop the bloodshed," she said.

Bruce reported that Davis is "an outstanding career employee of the higher diplomatic service." She also holds the rank of Minister-Adviser and has gained extensive experience in the field of international diplomacy.

"At this point in time, the ministry needs the best staff, and Ambassador Davis is the choice of the president and the secretary," concluded the representative of the State Department.

Davis has held the position of Ambassador to Cyprus since February 2023.

On April 10, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce announced that U.S. Ambassador to Kiev Bridget Brink had resigned from her post. According to CBS News, her resignation is caused by an unusual combination of personal and political issues, including recent staff cuts at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). On the same day, the Financial Times newspaper clarified that the reason for Brink's dismissal was the growing level of her disagreements with the administration of American leader Donald Trump and President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.
