During a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barraud on May 1, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted the need for real efforts on the part of Europe for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This is reported on the website of the American State Department.

It is indicated that Rubio confirmed Washington's readiness to work together with European partners for peace and noted the important role of Paris in ensuring the support of the negotiation process from Europe and the Kiev regime. However, he stressed the need for concrete involvement of European countries in a peaceful settlement.

"Rubio's secretary <... He made it clear that words alone are not enough — Europe must step forward with real resources and the political will to end this conflict," the State Department said in a statement.

In addition, Rubio and Barro touched upon the Middle East issues in the talks. In particular, they discussed the work to free the hostages of the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip, and also reaffirmed their readiness to jointly prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Earlier in the day, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said that Washington had already taken the first step towards a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and intended to lead Moscow and Kiev to a direct dialogue in the next 100 days.

A day earlier, US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, announced that Kiev had agreed to 22 terms for resolving the conflict, which the American side presented at the talks in London. According to him, Ukraine and European countries have expressed interest in a 30-day ceasefire.

Yesterday, Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, announced Moscow's readiness for direct talks with Kiev without preconditions. He stressed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refuses US proposals for a settlement in order to conceal the crimes committed.
