French police on Thursday, May 1, began actively suppressing a festive demonstration in Paris, whose participants advocate the abolition of pension reform.

Mass protests continue in France, caused by pension reform and the deterioration of the economic situation in the republic. Demonstrations regularly escalate into clashes with police, especially in Paris, Lyon and Marseille. Trade unions organize strikes that paralyze transport and other areas. In addition, on this day, some participants in the demonstrations break out of the crowd and smash whatever comes to hand.

The French government and President Emmanuel Macron maintain a tough stance and do not intend to abandon the reforms. The opposition forces, in turn, demand the resignation of the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to BFMTV, 29 people were arrested during the Paris demonstration. More than 250,000 people across France took to the squares against the pension reform.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that in the French city of Nantes, police fired tear gas during Labor Day demonstrations. According to local authorities, the protesters destroyed the prefecture and threw various objects and firecrackers at law enforcement officers. The police responded with water cannons and tear gas.
