The V.G. Ardzinba International Airport of Abkhazia in the city of Sukhum has accepted the first regular flight from Moscow after a break of more than 30 years. This was reported on May 1 by the Abkhaz Apsnypress agency.

"UVT Aero Airline delivered the first passengers from Vnukovo Airport. The flight at Sukhumi airport was greeted with a water salute," the agency's Telegram channel says.

This flight was the first since the 1990s in regular air service between Moscow and Sukhum. On the occasion of the resumption of flights, a solemn opening ceremony of the renovated V.G. Ardzinba International Airport was held. The event was attended by President of Abkhazia Badra Gunba and First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko.

As the agency reported, on May 6, Ikar Airlines will launch flights from Nizhny Novgorod to Sukhum. In addition, negotiations are underway on direct flights from Sukhum to Ufa and Kazan.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the first flight between Russia and Abkhazia in 30 years took off from Moscow's Vnukovo Airport to Sukhum Airport. The passengers of the historic flight were waiting for a concert with the participation of Russian and Abkhaz artists. Their performances will be dedicated to the friendship of the two peoples, as well as the upcoming anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.

On the same day, a new electric train "Dioscuria" began running between Russia and Abkhazia. It departs from the Imereti Resort station, located in Sirius, and goes to Sukhum.
