Direct flights between Russia and Abkhazia resumed after a 30-year hiatus

The first flight between Russia and Abkhazia in 30 years took off from Moscow's Vnukovo Airport to Sukhumi Airport on Thursday, May 1. The flight is operated by the Russian airline UVT Aero.

Passengers of the historic flight will enjoy a concert with the participation of Russian and Abkhaz artists. Their performances will be dedicated to the friendship of the two peoples, as well as the upcoming anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. At Sukhumi Airport, the guests will be greeted by local youth and children in Abkhaz national costumes.

On the same day, a new electric train "Dioscuria" began running between Russia and Abkhazia. It departs from the Imereti Resort station, located in Sirius, and goes to Sukhum.

On February 6, a passenger flight landed at Sukhumi International Airport for the first time in 32 years as part of a test flight from Moscow. The flight was carried out by a Mitsubishi CRJ 200-ER aircraft of the Russian UVT Aero company, on board were the then acting President of Abkhazia, Badra Gunba, and 20 other people.
