The assassination of Kenyan MP Charles Ongondo Vere in Nairobi was targeted. This was reported on May 1 by The Star newspaper with reference to the national police service.
The ministry's statement, released by its representative, Muchiri Nyaga, confirms that the deputy was shot dead on the evening of April 30.

The driver of the car and another passenger were not injured, they took the wounded deputy to a medical facility, where doctors soon pronounced him dead, the newspaper said.
"The nature of this crime appears to be targeted and predetermined," the police spokesman said, stressing that the investigation was ongoing.
The murder of a member of parliament in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, became known the day before. According to Citizen Digital, traffic police officers who were on duty nearby witnessed the shooting.
