The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on the attitude of the West and Ukraine towards Crimea

The West and Ukraine are aware of who owns Crimea. This was announced on May 1 by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry in Simferopol, Artyom Berezovsky.

"In the West, as well as in Ukraine, they understand perfectly well that Crimea is a sovereign territory of the Russian Federation, not because Russia wants it that way, but because the Crimeans themselves wanted it," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Berezovsky noted that this region cannot be considered as a simple thing that can be transferred. He added that when determining territorial affiliation, it is important to take into account the opinion of local residents.
