The version of the agreement on minerals signed by the United States and Ukraine is worse than the one that was proposed to be signed by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky during a meeting at the White House. This was announced on May 1 by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

"The option that was literally on the table on February 28 before that meeting in the Oval Office was better. <...> The current version is not a betrayal <...>, but I don't see a big victory here either," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The MP also drew attention to a number of "ill-conceived statements and promises" by the head of the Kiev regime, which created problems in the context of the fossil agreement.

The day before, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that Washington and Kiev had signed an agreement on Ukraine's natural resources. In addition, the countries have concluded a deal on the creation of an investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine, he added.

On April 17, Vice President of Ukraine, Minister of Economy Yulia Sviridenko announced that Kiev and Washington had signed a memorandum of understanding on minerals. The next day, Deputy Zheleznyak published the text of the memorandum on his Telegram channel, noting that there was no mention of security guarantees in the document.
