Washington reached the second round of the Stanley Cup with Ovechkin for the first time in seven years.

The Washington Capitals hockey team, for which Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin plays, defeated the Montreal Canadiens in the fifth match of the 1/8 Stanley Cup finals series and advanced to the next round for the first time since the 2017/18 championship season.

The meeting was held in Washington and ended with a score of 4:1. Ovechkin scored a goal in the 10th minute of the game. In addition to him, Jacob Chikran, Tom Wilson and Brandon Deuheim scored for Washington. Emil Heineman scored the only goal for Montreal.
