The beginning of the construction of a road bridge on the border of Russia and the DPRK has become a significant moment in the relations between the two countries. This was announced on April 30 by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

"The construction of a road bridge on the Korean-Russian state border, as an effort to establish and strengthen an important infrastructure for economic cooperation and create a practical guarantee for the multifaceted development of bilateral cooperation, including human movement, tourism and trade, is a significant moment that gives new dynamics to the development of friendly relations between the two countries," the article says.

On the Russian side, the ceremony was attended by Alexander Matsegora, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the DPRK, as well as other embassy and consulate staff, including Oleg Kosheev, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Chongjin. The national anthems of Russia and the DPRK were performed in a solemn atmosphere.

On April 30, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin called the construction of a bridge between Russia and the DPRK across the Tumannaya River a landmark stage for relations between the states. He noted that the bridge symbolizes the desire of the two countries to strengthen friendly and good-neighborly relations, as well as to increase interregional cooperation. He added that the parties are creating a reliable basis for closer cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang.

The agreement on the construction of a border road bridge across the Tumannaya River was signed by the government of the Russian Federation and the DPRK during the visit of the Russian delegation to the republic on June 19, 2024. Roman Starovoit, the head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia that the document was signed as part of the agreements between the leaders of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un, reached during the DPRK leader's visit to Russia in September 2023.
