Slovak parliament talks about cooperation with Russia in the nuclear sector

Slovakia intends to continue cooperation with Russia in the field of nuclear energy, as its nuclear power plants are built on the basis of Russian technologies and run on Russian nuclear fuel. Tibor Gašpar, vice speaker of the republic's parliament, said in an interview with Izvestia.
"We want to continue this program. I can't even imagine that we will change these technologies. Slovakia can be self-sufficient in electricity production precisely because of our nuclear power plants," Gašpar told Izvestia.
Slovakia has received an offer from the French to reorient to their nuclear technologies. But for now, today's government wants to continue the project based on the principle of Russian nuclear reactors and nuclear fuel from the Russian Federation or similar technologies.
"As far as I know, we are negotiating with various countries, some of the latest ones were with Korea, but at what stage these negotiations are at, I can't answer you now," the politician said.
The full version of the interview will be published on May 1 at 00:01.
Earlier, the media wrote that Slovakia took the opportunity to extend until 2030 the contract for the supply of Russian nuclear fuel for its nuclear power plants. On March 6, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said that the policy of the European Union (EU) and Ukraine threatens the energy security of Hungary and Slovakia. According to him, Russian oil products refined in Bratislava can be used in Hungary as well. In this way, the countries together fight discrimination against nuclear energy.
