Russia is ready to discuss with the United States the presence of their representatives at the Zaporizhia NPP as part of the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on April 30 by Alexey Likhachev, head of the Rosatom State Corporation.

"If a political decision is made by the country's leadership, we are ready to discuss this with the American side," he told the Interfax news agency.

On April 21, The Wall Street Journal reported that as part of the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, US representatives propose to establish a neutral status in the territories around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and transfer them to Washington's control. It is unknown which of the parties, according to the US plan, will control the power plant itself.

Prior to that, on March 26, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak reported that Russia was not considering the option of joint management of the NPP with the United States. On the same day, Russia's permanent representative to Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, confirmed that the Russian Federation would not allow the transfer of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant to Ukraine or the establishment of joint control over it with Kiev, the United States or international organizations.
