Turkey hopes that the truce announced by the Russian Federation on the days of the 80th anniversary of the Victory will open the door to permanent peace. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in an interview with reporters on April 30.

"We hope that this temporary ceasefire will expand and open the door to permanent peace. We have said from the very beginning that the <conflict> between Russia and Ukraine can only end in a just and lasting peace, and we have never lost hope for this," TASS quoted him as saying.

The Turkish leader noted that he was conducting "telephone diplomacy" with US President Donald Trump and supported his vision for resolving the Ukrainian conflict.

According to Erdogan, Moscow and Kiev should sincerely wish for peace and end this conflict, which harms not only the two countries, but also global security.

Erdogan added that Turkey will continue to contribute to the world and will support it.

Earlier, on April 11, Erdogan said that the early settlement of the conflict in Ukraine through the conclusion of a just and lasting peace agreement is a priority for Turkey. Erdogan also expressed the hope that Turkey will be able to maintain a balanced and at the same time active position, which it has adhered to since the first day of the Ukrainian conflict.
