Over 20 million cubic meters of gas are supplied to Hungary via the Turkish Stream during the day. This was announced on April 30 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"The Turkish Stream supplies Hungary with more than 20 million cubic meters of gas per day. This year, almost 2.5 billion cubic meters passed through it, which exceeds the record figure of last year," he said at a joint press conference with Turkish Energy Minister Alparaslan Bayraktar.

He expressed the opinion that Hungary's energy security cannot exist without Turkey. According to him, if the Turkish Stream had not been built in cooperation between the states, Budapest would have faced big problems due to the termination of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine.

Szijjarto stressed that in 2024 Hungary became the first non-neighboring country to which Turkey exported natural gas. He specified that the parties had agreed on large Turkish investments in the Hungarian energy sector.

"Today, two major regional oil companies, Hungarian MOL and Turkish TPAO, have joined forces to jointly explore and produce two fields here in Hungary. They created a joint venture, a concession agreement, <...> it has been signed. MOL and TPAO will jointly conduct exploration and production at oil fields in the Tamashi and Buzhak regions," the minister said.

In addition, the Hungarian Foreign Minister called the European People's Party (EPP) the most pro-military and pro-Ukrainian group of parties on the continent. According to him, EPP President Manfred Weber is one of the main proponents of Brussels' policy of prolonging the conflict in exchange for speeding up Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU).

Szijjarto clarified that the Hungarian side rejects the idea of Ukraine's rapid accession to the North Atlantic Alliance. According to him, if this idea is approved, the Hungarian labor market will be filled with Ukrainian labor, and the "Ukrainian mafia" will begin to use the country as a gateway to the EU.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on April 12 that Ukraine, in collusion with the European Union (EU), had stopped the transit of Russian gas through its territory in order to draw Hungary and Slovakia into the conflict. According to him, gas supplies to the east of Hungary have practically stopped.
