Foreign companies are turning to lawyers en masse to find out if they can return to the Russian market. This was reported by the Financial Times newspaper on April 30.

"Commodity traders, insurers, and shipping companies are among the Western companies that are turning to lawyers for advice on how to resume trade with Russia in preparation for the possible lifting of U.S. sanctions against Moscow," the material says.

According to Daniel Martin, partner and sanctions specialist at HFW, companies will still need to weigh the risks. According to the expert, the United States is able to ease sanctions, but then return them.

In addition, Lee Hanson, a partner at Reed Smit law firm, stressed that most businesses may still be limited by EU and UK sanctions. However, theoretically, European companies could open their offices in the United States, where non-Europeans would work, in order to "take advantage of more liberal American rules."

Earlier, on April 29, it was reported that foreign investors who left Russia and signed an option (repurchase of shares in the future) with domestic partners may be prohibited from returning shares of the company. This condition will apply if the asset has a serious socially significant impact on the economy.
