By receiving salaries in envelopes, Russians risk being left without a decent pension. State Duma deputy Svetlana Bessarab warned about this on Wednesday, April 30.

"First of all, a person who works "in the black" punishes himself. Insurance premiums that could be used for future retirement benefits are not paid from the salary in the envelope. As a result, the payments will be less," the parliamentarian said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

The parliamentarian recalled that a person who does not work under an employment contract and receives a salary in an envelope cannot count on insurance payments and sick leave.

"When a citizen is not a participant in an official employment relationship, he does not receive payments in case of temporary disability. If an accident occurs at work, it is also at the risk of the person himself, whereas in a normal situation, legislation protects employees and obliges the employer to compensate for all the harm received at the workplace," the deputy concluded.

Earlier, on March 17, Izvestia was told by the Rostrud's press service that 829,000 people who work in violation of labor laws had been identified in Russia. A year earlier, 5% less was found — 795 thousand workers.
