The doctor gave advice on how to deal with jet lag

When changing time zones, the body does not have time to adapt to the new time, the biological clock gets lost, so symptoms such as malaise, drowsiness or lack of sleep, headaches of various etiologies, and fatigue may appear. Elena Prokhorova, head of the Sber Eaptek pharmacy, told Izvestia about this on May 4. At the same time, Sberbank and Kupibilet conducted a survey and found out how many Russians are susceptible to jet lag.
"The cure for jet lag has not yet been invented, but there are several ways to help your body. The day before the flight, you need to get enough sleep and rest, and during the flight, drink more water to prevent dehydration, and choose foods with a minimum carbohydrate content," the expert recommended.
According to her, upon arrival, the clocks of the country where the person appeared should be maintained. It is better to go to bed immediately at local time, and if you have difficulty falling asleep, take a light sleeping pill based on melatonin, and spend more time in the sun during the day.
"Various vitamins and minerals will also help strengthen the body — for example, potassium and magnesium, glycine in combination with B vitamins, succinic acid," she advised.
Analysts of the Kupibilet air and train ticket purchase service together with Sberbank noted that the demand of Russians for long-distance destinations is growing. However, a quick change of time zones can be unhealthy for the body. Among the Russians surveyed, more than half (63%) experience jet lag syndrome during long flights, 26% do not experience jet lag, and 11% do not know what it is.
Among the most common symptoms of this syndrome, 50% of respondents named sleep disorders such as insomnia or drowsiness, 11% experience irritability or fatigue, and the other 11% experience decreased attention and decreased performance. At the same time, 10% noted that they felt general malaise, 7% — headache, another 7% — gastrointestinal upset, 4% - disorientation in space.
At the same time, in order to cope with the symptoms of jet lag, 35% prefer to rest during the flight, 13% rest before the flight, 11% try not to sleep before departure. Another 11% begin a gradual transition to a different time zone in advance, 9% take sleeping pills, 8% engage in sports and physical activity, 3% exclude heavy food. And only 10% admitted that they do nothing.
Earlier, on April 26, nutritionist Dmitry Semiryadov told Izvestia that prolonged use of gadgets and excessive consumption of caffeine harm the nervous system. However, spending more time outdoors can help reduce stress levels.
