Tolyatti man was convicted of the murder of his girlfriend and her mother 20 years ago

The Central District Court of Tolyatti sentenced a 43-year-old local resident to 19 years and 10 months in a penal colony for the murder of a friend and her elderly mother 20 years ago. This was announced on April 30 by the prosecutor's office of the Samara region.

It was established that on January 7, 2003, while drinking alcoholic beverages in a friend's apartment, a man attacked her and her 80-year-old mother with a knife, stabbing them multiple times, and then strangled them. Having found nothing of value in the dwelling, the malefactor disappeared. The murdered women were discovered on the same day by their flatmates.

"The court, taking into account the prosecutor's opinion, found the defendant guilty and imposed a sentence of 19 years and 10 months in prison to be served in a high—security penal colony," the agency's website says.

On April 24, a 46-year-old man was arrested in Moscow in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old woman committed in 2000. It is established that one of the defendants died. According to investigators, the suspects killed the woman because of a personal conflict, and then tried to fake the suicide of the victim.
