Special Envoy of the President of the United States Stephen Witkoff on Wednesday, April 30, described the Kremlin as an "impressive place."

"I arrived at the Kremlin. It's an impressive place. And I was a little awed, in the sense that I'm here on behalf of the U.S. government, trying to get a peace deal," he said on WABC radio.

Witkoff also stressed that he was struck by the importance of the events taking place.

In addition, he said that none of the meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin lasted less than three hours, and one of them almost dragged on until five o'clock. According to his special envoy of the American president, the Russian leader sees in the current situation a unique opportunity to rethink relations between Moscow and Washington.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on April 25 that Putin and Witkoff had met in Moscow. The parties began with a brief exchange of greetings in English, and then discussed the resumption of direct talks between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
