Trump announced his intention to achieve free passage through the Suez Canal

During telephone talks with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to ensure free passage of American ships through the Suez Canal. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on Tuesday, April 29, citing sources.
"Trump wants free passage through the Suez Canal in exchange for bombing the Houthis," the newspaper writes.
As indicated, the head of state made the relevant statement due to the ongoing attacks by the Yemeni Houthis on ships in the Red Sea, which significantly reduced traffic through the canal, which caused financial damage to Egypt.
According to the newspaper, al-Sisi refused to comply with Trump's demand for free passage through the canal.
Earlier, on April 14, the head of the Egyptian state information service, Dia Rashwan, said that the country's efforts in mediation between representatives of Israel and the Hamas group had a positive impact and made possible an early cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
