The administration of US President Donald Trump has informed Congress of its plans to recognize Haiti's criminal gangs as international terrorist organizations. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) on April 30, citing sources.

Earlier, a similar decision was made for eight Latin American criminal organizations.

"The new move indicates that the administration plans to put similar pressure on gangs from Haiti. Recognition as a [terrorist organization] entails sanctions and penalties for those who provide "material support" to the group," the agency reports.

In February, the media reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump was taking measures to lift protection from deportation for 348,000 Venezuelans. This means that about 348,000 Venezuelans with temporary protected status, that is, more than half of all Venezuelans covered by the program, may be deported and denied work permits in April.
