- European Parliament told about readiness for contacts with colleagues from the Russian Federation

MEPs from the European Parliament interviewed by Izvestia are ready for contacts with their Russian counterparts despite the fact that the EU leadership is currently rejecting the idea of talks with Moscow.
"I am a member of the delegation in the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, and if this group were involved in negotiations, I would be happy to contribute to the resumption of contacts and mutually beneficial relations that are important for Slovakia and Central Europe," Milan Uhrik, deputy head of the Europe of Sovereign Nations faction in the EP, told Izvestia.
The need to restore relations or at least dialog on a possible end to the conflict is mainly defended by the Europe of Sovereign Nations group and part of the Patriots for Europe faction. They are introducing resolutions on the need for negotiations with the Russian Federation.
"Today, it cannot be expected that the majority of MEPs will support these resolutions. Their fears may be dispelled when there is more progress in negotiations between Russian Federation and the United States", Uhrick summarized.
Bulgarian MEP Petar Volgin is also ready to participate in a dialog with his Russian colleagues. A potential platform could be the committee of parliamentary cooperation between Russia and the EU, informal meetings in the format of which have not been held since 2019, the politician noted.
