On the eve of the May holidays and the approaching summer, which means preparations for the beach season and the wedding season, attackers have become more active in attacking the websites of medium and small businesses. Artem Izbayenkov, director of the Solar Space cloud cyber defense platform at Solar Group, told Izvestia about this.

Thus, according to the Solar Space cloud cyber defense platform, the number of attacks on the websites of sanatoriums, hotels, boarding houses and small tour operators has increased. Regional fitness clubs and, remarkably, online wedding decor rental services were among the victims.

The service records a surge in the activity of malicious bots that generate fake bookings and prevent real customers from receiving the necessary services. Hackers also carry out DDoS and web attacks, which can lead to the suspension of websites and leakage of the customer base.

Attackers commit such attacks to harm both users who risk being left without services, and the business itself, which may lose additional profits. At the same time, both hacktivists and hackers hired by competitors can attack.

"To avoid cyber threats during a period of high demand, we recommend providing your online business with basic cyber protection measures against DDoS attacks and malicious bots. We also recommend that you assess the load on the site in advance and ensure round—the-clock monitoring and response to abnormal amounts of traffic," he said.

On April 1, the Russian Railways website and mobile application were subjected to a massive hacker DDoS attack. Ticket offices at the stations and train stations continued to operate normally. Later, it was reported that the site was reopened after cyber attacks.
