Giant otters have settled in the Moscow Zoo for the first time

Giant otters have settled in the new territory of the Moscow Zoo for the first time. This was announced on Tuesday, April 29, by the press service of the Moscow Department of Culture.
These animals are listed in the International Red Book as an Endangered Species and will be under the strict supervision of zoo specialists. A new aviary has been specially built for them to meet their needs, the Moscow City News Agency reports. There is a spacious 1.8 m deep pool with fresh water, where live fish are periodically launched. The territory also has several zones with different types of soil: from sand, earth to mulch, writes RIAMO.
The animals are just over a year old, each weighing about 23-24 kg. The main diet of otters consists of river fish — catfish, carp and trout. They have to be fed three times a day, notes 360.ru .
In nature, giant otters can be found in several countries of South America. They grow up to two meters in length and gain 30 kg of weight. Otters easily resist caimans and other large predators, according to the website kp.ru .
