Russia supports the start of direct negotiations with Ukraine without preconditions. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following the BRICS Ministerial Council in Rio de Janeiro on April 29.

He also added that Kiev began to demand an immediate truce, as the Ukrainian troops were "backing away."
