Malt producers in Russia are taking the right steps, and the country should be a leader in product quality. Alexander Yefimov, senior brewer of the Novosibirsk craft brewery Elbrus, told Izvestia on April 29.

"I personally prefer to use Russian malt varieties for the simple reason that I believe in our malt-growing and our agro-industrial complex. Now Russian manufacturers are taking the right steps in this direction," he believes.

Efimov noted that at the moment the goal for domestic enterprises is to surpass European manufacturers in quality. According to the brewer, if this can be done with malt in the shortest possible time, then the situation with chlorine is less clear due to the high competition in product quality.

Earlier that day, the council for the development of the brewing industry began its work in Russia, headed by Taimuraz Bolloev, President of Baltika. The new institution is designed to unite large and small players in this market. Brewers expect that the creation of the council will lead to a real "beer renaissance" in the Russian Federation.
