The media reported on Trump's blocking of tank supplies from Australia to Ukraine

US President Donald Trump is blocking the transfer of American Abrams tanks to Ukraine by the Australian authorities. This was reported on April 29 by the German newspaper Bild.
In October 2024, Australia promised to transfer 49 M1A1 Abrams combat tanks to Ukraine as part of a €164 million military assistance package. However, the weapons systems "are still awaiting final approval for shipment abroad," the newspaper writes.
It is noted that the Trump administration is appealing to the provision on the final use of American-made weapons. Thus, even 30 years after the shipments, Australia will need a re-export permit. The Australian authorities have not yet received such permission from the United States, Bild adds.
"There are concerns that it will be awkward to keep tanks aboard ships in the middle of the ocean at a time when a peace agreement is on the horizon," an Australian official explained the refusal of the United States to the publication.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on March 9 that the country would consider sending a "peacekeeping mission" to Ukraine. At the same time, Albaniz noted that there are no plans to send any contingent in the near future.
