The attempts of the European Union (EU) to force Kiev to observe the truce in order to prevent Moscow from celebrating May 9 are a provocation. Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia on April 29.

Earlier in the day, the Croatian edition of Advance reported that in the coming days, EU leaders will be in constant contact with Kiev so that it does not agree to a truce with Moscow under any circumstances and does not give it a chance to celebrate the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.

According to him, the position of most European countries has long been clear.

"They continue to support Kiev's position, despite the fact that it has little focus on constructive dialogue, conflict resolution and opening tracks for negotiations. It is becoming very clear that this is not a position aimed at being constructive and at finding compromises," Denisov said.

According to the political scientist, such intentions will not stop Moscow from celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Victory. The expert stressed that the Russian Federation and countries that perceive May 9 as Victory Day will not be affected by such Western initiatives.

"Moreover, the arrival of a number of political leaders to Moscow for the celebration of May 9 has already been announced, including European leaders who will definitely not abandon this act. So this is another provocation that once again highlights the difference between the approaches of Russia and the European Union to conflict management," Denisov concluded.

On April 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a truce in the days of the 80th anniversary of Victory from 00:00 from May 7-8 to 00:00 from May 10-11.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the truce dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory is a manifestation of Russia's goodwill. According to him, Putin is guided by humanitarian considerations, and this underlines the country's readiness to reach a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

On April 14, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaya Kallas, warned European officials that if they visited Russia to participate in Victory Day celebrations, they would face "consequences." Sergei Naryshkin, director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), called such a ban disgusting.
