- Izvestia International Exhibition Center will hold exhibitions of military photographs dedicated to the anniversary of the Great Victory

On the eve of the Victory Day celebration, Izvestia International Exhibition Center jointly with its partners organized photo exhibitions dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Expositions with rare archival footage will be available until the end of May in Krasnaya Presnya Park, Hermitage Garden and Pulkovo Airport.
In addition, photographs of Izvestia photojournalists will become part of the exhibitions: "War Correspondents on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War" on Gogol Boulevard and "The Day We Won" in Vorontsovsky Park. All expositions are dedicated to the heroism of the people and the military officers who covered the events on the fronts and in the rear.
"Izvestia's photojournalists witnessed and participated in the largest battles of the war, sending fresh pictures from the front to the editorial office every day. For example, Georgy Zelma hardly left the city during the entire Battle of Stalingrad, creating a unique photographic record, many of these shots were shot under heavy fire. The correspondents were not only witnesses, but often also participants in the fighting. Photojournalist Pavel Troshkin was a fiercely brave man, fought with weapons in his hands, and participated in hand-to-hand combat. Pavel Troshkin died as a soldier in a shootout with Bandera. And Anatoly Skurikhin, Mikhail Grachev and Nikolai Petrov worked in the rear — in factories and hospitals, whose photographs became documentary evidence of the labor exploits of Soviet people," said Tatiana Kireeva, editor of the Izvestia archive.
Izvestia's photojournalists became one of the main chroniclers of the war. In the early days of the Great Patriotic War, 52 employees of the publication went to the front. In total, more than 300 Izvestia soldiers worked on the fronts from 1941 to 1945. The photo galleries include shots from 1941-1945 taken by Georgy Samsonov, Dmitry Baltermants, Pavel Troshkin, Georgy Khomzor, Mikhail Grachev, Anatoly Skurikhin, Anatoly Egorov, Georgy Zelma and other journalists.
The newspaper's reporters and photojournalists helped preserve the documentary evidence of this terrible war forever. They witnessed both the fighting and the rare moments of soldiers' rest. Risking their lives, they informed people day after day about what was happening at the front, talked about tragedies and exploits, photographed liberated cities and the faces of heroes.
Earlier, as part of the large—scale Izvestia project, the Great Victory Virtual Museum, some unique images were brought to life using artificial intelligence. You can see them at the exhibition by scanning the QR code on the stand.
Also, on the eve of the holiday, Izvestia will release a reprint of the historical issue dated May 9, 1945.
Victory Day, May 9, 1945, is an important and special event for every citizen of our country. Because there is no family that has not been touched by the Great Patriotic War. 80 years after the end of the war, Izvestia News Center recalls the price of the Great Victory.
