May tremor: Russians expect a cool weekend with precipitation

The weather for the first May holidays in the capital region will not be very comfortable for outdoor trips, meteorologists told Izvestia. Cyclones will determine the air temperature at the beginning of the month, said Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency.

— In the first half of the holidays it will be an Atlantic cyclone, and in the second half it will be joined by a southern cyclone. We will get a portion of warmer air, although all days the temperature will be below the climatic norm," she said.

According to the meteorologist, on the first and second of May, the minimum air temperature in Moscow will be +2 ... +4 degrees, and the maximum — no higher than + 10 degrees. Rains are expected.

In the north and east of the Moscow region, the thermometer may drop to -2 degrees, according to data from the Phobos weather center. The daily climatic temperature norm for the first of May is +15 degrees, and it is still far from it, they added.

A cold night with temperatures up to +3 degrees is expected in the capital region on May 2, Tatiana Pozdnyakova added.

— The daytime temperature will be slightly higher and will reach +12 degrees, — she predicts. — A significant amount of precipitation may fall on the night of the second of May. That is, the air temperature will be about five degrees below normal.

Starting from the third of May, the rains will be short-lived and light, the meteorologist added. Daytime temperatures will rise to +13...+18 degrees above zero.

— That is, the air temperature will still remain below the climatic norm, but only by a couple of degrees. If you choose the time to travel outside the city, it is better in the second half of the holidays, — recommended Tatiana Pozdnyakova.

Weather forecasts for the second May holidays are still constantly changing, the meteorologist added. It is not worth expecting 25-degree heat in the first half of May, says Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center. However, there will be no snowfall in May before Victory Day, as last year, in the middle zone, he believes.

What awaits St. Petersburg and other cities

In St. Petersburg, May will start with sunny and cold weather, said Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather Center.

"Only 0...+2 degrees are expected on Thursday morning, slightly above +10 degrees in the afternoon. It will be sunny and cold," he said in his Telegram channel. "On Friday, May 2, the cyclone will bring light rains to St. Petersburg, but will raise the temperature to +16...+18 degrees."

On Saturday, the temperature in the Northern capital will drop to +12...+14 degrees, and the rains will be more heavy, torrential. On Sunday, the weather is expected with light rains and temperatures slightly below normal, the meteorologist added.

Along with the cyclones, warmer air masses will arrive in the European part of the country, Phobos noted. Warming will peak by the end of the week. In Central Russia, the weather should return to normal by this time.

"Even in the north of the Russian Plain, daytime temperatures will rise to +4...+9°. In the middle zone and in the Northwest, the thermometer will show +12...+17°, and in the south it will reach +17...+22°," Phobos said.

But the Atlantic air will not be able to warm the Urals. In Yekaterinburg, in the second half of the week, the thermometer will rise to +8...+11 °, which is several degrees colder than normal.

How not to get sick on holidays

It is important for people who are sensitive to environmental changes to monitor the weather forecast in order to prepare in advance for its changes, the doctors interviewed by Izvestia reminded.

A balanced and varied diet is extremely important to maintain the functioning of the immune system during weather fluctuations, Timofey Tkachev, a general practitioner at the Sberbank Health medical company, reminded. It should consist of proteins, complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, fiber, vitamins and trace elements. It is also important to consume about 1.5-2 liters of clean drinking water.

— A full-fledged, high-quality night's sleep for 7-9 hours also plays an important role, since the lack of a night's rest weakens the body's defenses. Alcohol and smoking should be avoided, as they worsen vascular adaptation," the doctor reminded.

It is recommended to maintain a favorable indoor climate. According to the doctor, the optimal air humidity is 40-60% and the temperature is +20 ... +22 degrees.

— Ventilation of the room at least 2-3 times a day allows to reduce the concentration of viruses and bacteria in the air, — Timofey Tkachev reminded.

It is advisable for patients with migraines or chronic respiratory diseases to consult a doctor in advance: he may recommend preventive treatment or adjustment of current therapy during unstable weather, added Ekaterina Demyanovskaya, an expert at the Hemotest laboratory, a neurologist.

This year, more than half of Russians plan to stay in their city for the May holidays, according to data from the Fix Price survey conducted by Izvestia together with the ROMIR Human Institute. At the same time, 34% of Russians will stay in their city and rest, and 17% will work.

35% of the respondents plan to go out of town or to the country, the study showed. 8% of Russians have planned to travel around the country, while only 1% of respondents plan to travel abroad.
