The Spanish electricity grid operator had previously warned of the risk of blackouts. This was reported by the newspaper El Mundo on April 29.

"Two months ago, Red Electrica acknowledged to investors the risk of outages in the system due to the high penetration of renewable energy sources," the publication points out.

According to him, the company also warned that the steady loss of power "increases the risk of operational incidents."

On the eve of the residents of Spain and Portugal faced a large-scale power outage, which affected the operation of public transport, power lines and telephone communication in some parts of Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon.

On April 29, the operator Red Electrica announced that the electricity supply in Spain has been almost completely restored. According to media reports, a court in Spain has launched an investigation into the causes of the large-scale shutdown to find out if it was an act of sabotage.
