Russia welcomes the decision of the Palestinian leadership related to the appointment of Hussein Al-Sheikh to the post of Vice President of the country. This was announced on April 29 on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Russia welcomes the decision of the Palestinian leadership. In Moscow, they know X.The Sheikh is a responsible and experienced politician who enjoys respect in the region and the world. He consistently advocates a diplomatic settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the development of Russian-Palestinian relations," the publication says.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also called for direct negotiations on the settlement of final status issues under UN Security Council resolutions between Israel and Palestine. According to the Ministry, the cessation of hostilities in Gaza and the West Bank of the Jordan River is a necessary prerequisite, and hostages and other detained people should also be released.

"We are convinced that it is impossible to achieve sustainable stability and long-term peace in the region without a comprehensive solution to the long-standing Palestinian problem on a universally recognized international legal basis. Russian diplomacy will continue to make every effort to achieve these goals," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

It is specified that the decision to appoint the Vice President of Palestine was made during a meeting of the Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization, which took place on April 24. The appointment to this post was approved on April 26.

On April 11, Philippe Lazarini, Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), said that the only alternative to the agency's activities was the creation of a full-fledged Palestinian state. The head of UNRWA stressed that a solution to the Palestinian issue is necessary to end violence and achieve stability in the region.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on April 9 that the country could recognize the state of Palestine this summer. According to him, in June France could finalize the movement for mutual recognition of Palestine by several countries.
