A court in Volgograd has sentenced two young men to 13 years in a high-security penal colony for setting fire to cell towers and attempting to sabotage a railway station on behalf of the special services of Ukraine. This was announced on April 29 by the joint press service of the courts of general jurisdiction of the region.

It was established that in June 2024, the convicts colluded with a representative of the Ukrainian special services via the Internet. Their goal was to destroy communications facilities in order to undermine Russia's economic security for financial reward.

After receiving the assignment, the convicts twice set fire to the base station of PJSC Vimpel Communications, which disabled the equipment. The arson attacks were recorded on video and sent to the supervisor as a report.

According to the press service, after each sabotage, one of the young people received a cryptocurrency, which he then legalized, converting into rubles through banking technologies, avoiding control. Continuing their criminal activities, the defendants prepared for new arson attacks at the railway station, but were detained by law enforcement agencies.

The young men were found guilty of crimes.

"According to the totality of the crimes, they were sentenced to imprisonment for the term: (FULL NAME – Ed.) — 13 years and 6 months, with a fine of 60 thousand rubles; (FULL NAME – Ed.) — 13 years," the Telegram channel of the press service said.

They will serve their sentences in a high-security penal colony.

On April 24, the FSB's Public Relations Center was informed about the prevention of a terrorist attack using UAVs in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, planned at a petrochemical plant. The perpetrators were two citizens from Central Asia, acting on the instructions of the Ukrainian curator. They resisted arrest and were neutralized.
