Vasily Tsereteli, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Arts, has been appointed acting President of the institution. This was announced on April 29 by the press service of the Russian Academy of Arts.

"At a meeting on April 29, 2025, the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts appointed Vasily Zurabovich, Vice-president of Tsereteli, as acting president," the press service told RIA Novosti.

It is specified that he will hold the position until the general meeting of the members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, at which the election of a new president of the Academy is to take place.

President of the Republic of Armenia, muralist and sculptor Zurab Tsereteli died on April 22 at the age of 92. According to his assistant Sergey Shagulashvili, the sculptor died in his studio at home. On April 26, he was buried in the Didubian Pantheon in Tbilisi.

Vasily Tsereteli shared with Izvestia on April 24 that his grandfather gave the world a huge wealth of works of art, work was the meaning of life for him. According to him, Tsereteli Sr. worked and did everything for the benefit of art, people, humanity and the academy to the last.
