The Moscow Regional Court has extended the measure of restraint for Colombian drug trafficker Munoz Ramirez Carlos Alberto, known in Russia as Carlos, accused of sending and smuggling cocaine. This was reported on April 29 by a correspondent of Izvestia.

It is noted that Carlos will remain in custody until October 13 this year. He admitted his guilt, but refused to testify.

According to the investigation, in 2016, the drug dealer and his accomplices smuggled cocaine from Colombia and the Republic of Paraguay to Russia by air. Narcotic substances with a total weight of more than 3.2 kg were hidden in two mail items found at Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports.

In November 2017, Carlos was put on the international wanted list, and soon he was detained by Colombian law enforcement officers. On December 12, 2024, the drug dealer was extradited to Russia.

On April 11, it was reported that a Colombian citizen would be tried in the Moscow region. It was noted that criminal punishment is provided for under Part 5 of Article 228.1, paragraphs "a", "b" of Part 4 of Article 229.1, paragraphs "a", "d" of Part 4 of Article 228.1, paragraph "a" of Part 4 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal transfer and smuggling of narcotic drugs on a large scale and especially large sizes")".
