A man was detained in St. Petersburg for publicly justifying terrorism. This was announced on April 29 by a source of Izvestia.

According to the source, in March 2024, a 23-year-old local resident posted a number of comments on the Telegram messenger in support of the activities of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) terrorist organization banned in Russia.

According to the source, the detainee could face up to seven years in prison under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism").

On April 9, the press service of the Omsk Region Prosecutor's office reported that a court had sentenced a 26-year-old local resident to 11 years in prison for publicly calling for the financing of the RDC and fundraising for it. The man was found guilty under Part 1.1 of Article 205.1, Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Financing and public justification of terrorism using the Internet").
