Pushkov pointed to Trump's desire to show leadership in negotiations on Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump did not allow French leader Emmanuel Macron to join a meeting with their Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky because he wants to make decisions on his own. This was announced on April 29 by the head of the Federation Council Commission on information policy, Alexei Pushkov.
"An illustrative detail: Trump did not allow Macron to join their conversation with Zelensky. Macron was eager to participate, and a third chair was prepared for him in St. Peter's Cathedral. However, Trump sent him on his way," the senator's Telegram channel says.
According to the head of the Federation Council commission, Trump asked Macron to do a favor and leave, since the French president was not supposed to attend the meeting with Zelensky. According to Pushkov, the US president intends to act independently in decision-making, "rather than be guided."
Earlier, on April 28, White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt said that Trump remains optimistic about resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The Head of State stands for a permanent ceasefire, not a temporary truce. He believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky need to sit down at the negotiating table in order to reach a settlement.
