Thailand handed over an internationally wanted Russian citizen to Russia

Thai law enforcement agencies handed over to their Russian colleagues a resident of Primorsky Krai, who is on the international wanted list on charges of extortion. This was announced on Tuesday, April 29, by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.

"He was on the international wanted list on charges of extortion committed by an organized group in order to obtain property on an especially large scale," the Interior Ministry Media portal quoted her as saying.

According to the case file, from 2008 to 2013, the suspect was a member of a criminal group operating in the city of Arsenyev, Primorsky Krai. In March 2013, malefactors attacked a local logging entrepreneur, beat him up and forced him to hand over a car and agricultural machinery worth several million rubles at gunpoint.

Later, the same group demanded more than 5 million rubles from another businessman for "patronage", and under pressure from threats, he reissued real estate and land lease rights for them.

According to these facts, a criminal case was opened under Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Extortion"). The suspects were identified, and they were given a preventive measure in the form of detention, but one of the defendants fled abroad. At the request of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Primorsky Territory, he was put on the international wanted list.

Operational information indicated the possible location of the criminal in Thailand. Thanks to cooperation through Interpol, the Thai authorities detained the wanted man. He was taken to Russia for investigative actions, Volk said.
