The United States is serious about achieving a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, as demonstrated by the conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This was announced on April 28 by the official representative of the US State Department, Tammy Bruce.

"The United States is serious about helping to end this <conflict>," France24 quoted her as saying.

It is also clarified that after the visit to Moscow of the special envoy of the President of the United States, Stephen Witkoff, the Secretary of State, in a conversation with his Russian counterpart, outlined further steps in the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, and also stated the need to "end the conflict now."

During a telephone conversation the day before, Lavrov and Rubio agreed to continue contacts at all levels. During the conversation, they focused on the issues of the Ukrainian conflict. The American Secretary of State stated the importance of "consolidating the emerging prerequisites for the start of negotiations" in order to reach a peaceful settlement.

On April 27, Lavrov noted that negotiations with the United States to resolve the conflict in Ukraine were moving in the right direction. He recalled that the American Secretary of State, among other things, expressed the opinion that during the negotiations Washington better understood Moscow's position, as well as the underlying causes of the conflict.
