On April 28, the 11th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Cambodian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held under the chairmanship of Oksana Lut, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, and Prak Sokhon, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture reported.
The event, which was attended by representatives of federal agencies and businesses of the two countries, discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, energy, finance, education, culture and agriculture.
"Cambodia is a reliable partner of Russia in Southeast Asia. Oksana Lut noted that the relations between the two countries are developing in many areas. In 2024, the volume of trade increased by 8%," the Ministry of Agriculture said.
The Russian-Cambodian partnership in the agricultural sector has significant potential. According to the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, domestic producers are ready to supply poultry and cattle meat, mineral fertilizers and vaccines for veterinary use to Cambodia. In addition, the Russian side expressed interest in developing cooperation in the field of agricultural education. In particular, the most promising areas of training are breeding and animal husbandry.
Oksana Lut noted the prospects for developing cooperation with the kingdom in the energy sector. Russian companies are ready to implement joint projects in the field of gas infrastructure and renewable energy, construction and modernization of energy facilities in Cambodia.
In order to increase mutual trade, it is important to work on the development of the settlement and payment infrastructure. According to the minister, the establishment of a direct dialogue between financial regulators can contribute to strengthening bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries.
In conclusion, the parties expressed their willingness to expand further cooperation between Russia and the Kingdom of Cambodia, discussed the possibilities of organizing business missions and signed the final Protocol of the Intergovernmental Commission meeting.
Relations between Russia and Cambodia are developing in different directions. So, in September 2024, the Prosecutor General of Russia, Igor Krasnov, for the first time signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Prosecutor General of the Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Chea Leang.
