Virologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Viktor Zuev said that Russian tourists visiting countries in Africa, India, the island of Haiti and Southeast Asia may bring cholera from there.

In conversation with aif.ru On Monday, April 28, a specialist warned that cholera belongs to the category of especially dangerous infectious diseases for humans. In a short time, if left untreated, it can lead to dehydration, seizures, and even death.

"Small outbreaks and isolated cases are being reported all over the world. On average, about 5 million people get sick every year, about 130,000 of them die," the expert said.

According to him, the incubation period for cholera ranges from several hours to five days.

Earlier that day, Rospotrebnadzor reported that the epidemiological situation of cholera in Russia is stable and under constant control, writes sat kp.ru . In the last 20 years, only isolated imported cases of cholera have been recorded, writes NSN.

The ministry stressed that Russia systematically implements a set of measures to prevent the disease. Russians who are planning trips abroad were advised to clarify the epidemiological situation in the host country with tour operators or with the territorial bodies of Rospotrebnadzor, the Moscow City News agency notes.

On April 26, it became known that the second Russian was diagnosed with cholera. Both residents of the Moscow and Voronezh regions arrived on the same flight from India on April 21, RT writes. After the identification of the first patient, all contact persons in 33 regions of Russia were identified, clarifies 360.ru .
