- The Council for the development of the brewing industry will help domestic producers

The Beer and Non-alcoholic Products Council appeared in Russia, it brought together all the key market players. His goal is to get rid of the dominance of foreign companies that only earn money from us, but do not invest in development. Izvestia tells about the structure of the council.
"There is a catastrophic shortage of hops and malting barley. We need to do this. The bigwigs of the West are gone. We can handle it ourselves," said Alexey Nebolsin, head of the commission for the production and turnover of brewing products at Opora Russia.
It is noted that hops are imported not only from friendly China, Serbia and Turkey, but also from the Netherlands, Lithuania, Latvia, as well as malt. Almost all of the barley is from a foreign base. There is also a problem with the equipment, depreciation is 85%. Previously, Germany was the main supplier. Due to the sanctions, it is impossible to upgrade the equipment to 100%, not all items have analogues, so the industry needs import substitution.
"The income that was received, they went abroad in the form of royalties. There was no money left in Russia," explained Mikhail Khlynovsky, brewmaster and Director of Brewing Business Development.
The number one task for the council is to develop a common strategy for brewers, because this industry plays a powerful role in the economy.
"Today, relatively speaking, there are large holdings left over from transnationals, and there are quite a lot of Russian brewers. The industry needs to be regulated, this is 100%," says Kamal Lebedev, head of the organization of beer and alcohol market participants.
The Council for the development of the brewing industry was conceived precisely in order to restore order here and help domestic brewers.
"Currently, there is no balanced government policy in the brewing industry, and there is not a single strategic planning document defining the development of the industry, including its raw material base, for the medium and long term. For many years, Russian brewing has not been the focus of attention, and the unification of the industry is simply necessary," said Taimuraz Bolloev, Chairman of the Council for the Development of the brewing industry.
Earlier that day, it was reported that Taimuraz Bolloev, President of Baltika, had become chairman of the expert advisory council for the development of the brewing industry. Besides him, Nikolai Tyurnikov, CEO of AB Inbev Efes, and Dmitry Kiselyov, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia, also joined the board.
