Russians started spending more money on their pets in 2025

Russians increased spending on goods for their pets by 34%. At the same time, the number of transactions also increased by 28%, and the average receipt increased by 5%, to 731 rubles. This follows from the data of the Post Bank, which was reviewed by Izvestia on April 29. Experts compared the indicators of bank card transactions since the beginning of 2025 with the same period in 2024.
In addition, Russians began spending 7% more in veterinary clinics. At the same time, the average check increased by 9% to 1,689 rubles, while the number of transactions increased by only 1%.
Most often, women became buyers of pet stores and clients of veterinary clinics — their share was 65% and 73%, respectively.
"In addition to Moscow and the region, St. Petersburg, the majority of spending falls on residents of the Kaliningrad, Sverdlovsk regions and Khabarovsk Territory," the credit institution noted.
According to the bank's experts, the increase in spending is due to rising prices in this market segment, including higher prices for foreign drugs, vaccines and premium feeds. At the same time, women are more likely to make decisions about pet purchases, food types, and vaccines, so their share is higher among buyers.
Earlier, on April 16, it was reported that in Russia over the past four years, the number of stray animals has decreased from 4.1 million to 3.6 million. This is 4% of the total number of pets. At the same time, the number of pets in shelters increased from 144 thousand to 170 thousand. This is stated in the results of a study by the Center for the Study of Nutrition and Animal Welfare.
