A criminal case has been opened against Oleg Vasenin, former deputy head of the Department of Property for Special projects of the Russian Ministry of Defense, for embezzlement of budget funds during the state defense order. This was announced on April 28 by the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation.

They noted that Vasenin is accused of embezzlement of state property on an especially large scale under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud").

According to the investigation, in 2022, the property management of special projects of the Ministry of Defense signed a contract with Translom LLC for the provision of services for the acceptance of secondary raw materials, the control over the execution of which was entrusted to Vasenin.

"In the period 2022-2023. Vasenin, by submitting deliberately false documents about the cost of secondary raw materials, committed embezzlement of budget funds in the amount of more than 240 million rubles," the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation said in a Telegram channel.

It is specified that the investigation of the criminal case is ongoing. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention for the former deputy chief.

Earlier, on February 10, it was reported that a criminal case had been opened in the Kaliningrad Region against the heads of companies that spent 300 million rubles intended for the construction of Defense Ministry facilities. It is noted that the contract was signed at a cost of 900 million rubles for the construction of new facilities in the region.
